Sanmiittai is still in development. My concept is to create all possible building stones, so you are free to create any 3D design with these specific (harmonic) geometric structures.
The structure of a product design (such as eg. a lampshade or a fruit bowl) given by the Sanmiittai building stones have a real natural beauty in its perfect simplicity and due to its customizeable nature makes this a beautiful and inspiring gift.
So far I created the building stones for two (sacred) geometric designs – the Star Tetrahedron (expansion) and the Vector Equilibrium (contraction) – which form the basis of Sanmiittai.

Vector Equilibrium
The Vector Equilibrium is formed by pointing 8 tetrahedrons inwards, the exact opposite of the Star Tetrahedron, using the same amount of bars but needs 1 connector piece less.
The Vector Equilibrium, as its name describes, is the only geometric form wherein all of the vectors are of equal length and angular relationship (60 angles throughout). From a physics standview it represents the ultimate and perfect condition wherein the movement of energy comes to a state of absolute equilibrium, and therefore absolute stillness and nothingness. As Buckminster Fuller states, because of this it is the zero-phase from which all other forms emerge.
The vector equilibrium is the zero starting point for happenings or non happenings: it is the empty theater and empty circus and empty Universe ready to accommodate any act and any audience.

Although I’m very pleased with the service and quality Shapeways and 3D-printing has to offer, this is still a prototype product and will be perfected in factory production and completed with a stylized packaging.
